Nursery Care for all service Death is Obsolete “And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Issac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” Matthew 22: 31, 32 (ESV) To many of us who are not fully aware of, or who are not trusting in God’s promises, death is a frightful formidable dreadfully permanent condition. From God’s perspective death is merely a term that describes our momentary transition from one brief lifetime to an eternal one. While it does imply separation from the past we never lose track of the present. Consequently, to the Christian, death means nothing more than instantaneous renovation into a perfect being without flaw or imperfection. But rather than considering it a free ticket to Adventureland, we still too often look at it as an unknown, a lonely journey first into darkness, then perhaps light, and finally oblivion or eternal boredom. God promises an abundant life not boredom or nothingness. Death is an obsolete term, a misnomer, a misinterpretation of the highest order that persists in many of our minds as the ultimate fear. Let joyous anticipation dwell in our hearts and minds from now forward because God has big plans for us that we simply can’t accomplish if we’re dead. Dear Lord God, help us realize the eternal happiness, joy, and fulfillment that lays ahead of us, for in your eyes our journey into abundant life is just beginning. Amen. Meditatons by Fred Fischer |
